Choosing the right level of detail

We work across three levels of detail, from simple massing through to fully resolved, presentation-grade imagery. The right level depends on the assessment, design stage, audience and budget.

The three tiers

  • LOD 1 — Massing — overall building form and scale only

  • LOD 2 — Expressed Form — developed architectural geometry and key façade elements

  • LOD 3 — Fully Resolved — detailed architecture, materials, landscaping and context for presentation-grade imagery

Accuracy at every level

Level of detail changes; spatial accuracy doesn't. Every tier can be built from the same verified survey, spatial data and camera methodology. Photorealism is an additional layer — not a substitute for an accurate underlying model.
